End of the Road

What is it
that makes me wanna help
when I see someone down?

Can’t fix a world
that binds, entwines me like kelp,
but it hurts just ta frown.

I can’t walk the streets
without seein’ ‘em,
poor folks, they’re all over town.

Their eyes say it all,
they gave up even tryin’.
It’s like seein’ someone drown.

See that young mother cryin’?
She thinks it’s the end of the road,
Her kid can’t weigh twenty pounds.

What is it
that makes me wanna help
when I see someone down?
