This Silence

Silence fills hearts of those
who, eyes turned upward,
saw the trail of dreams that
raced across new morning skies.
Seven lives, minds in exploration,
lifted into space by hands who
stayed behind to learn the lessons
sought - knowledge no one knew.
Who takes these steps, who'll teach us?
The brave and willing always stand.
It's what makes us great, yet dread,
this thirst for knowing - going
where even angels fear to tread.
Those seven live in us now,
their breath moves us ahead.
