Raccoons

'Raccoons' photograph by Troy Schulz, Presentation by Shirley Harshenin

two raccoons came by the pond last night
tried to catch some Koi and tasty goldfish
their visit didn’t net a single bite

made a mess and stirred up sleepy waters
left its surface strewn with golden bamboo leaves
fled up a tree for safer quarters

faces masked, could not identify them in a line-up
they’re in trouble if I get them in my sights
